Best Drugstore Makeup Brands for Beginners

When I first started doing my makeup, I was a bit overwhelmed at all of the different brands. I had absolutely no idea which products were good, which ones were bad, or even which ones were drugstore makeup brands versus higher end. SO….if you happen to be in the same position as I was in then, here are a few of my absolute favorite drugstore makeup brands and some of the products I love from each one.

  1. Maybelline: Maybelline just always seems pretty reliable when it comes to finding and trying out new makeup. I really haven’t found a lot from there that I just absolutely hate. Maybelline has some really great concealers, including the Fit Me and the Instant Age Rewind Under Eye concealers. They also have good everyday mascaras. My personal favorite is the Lash Sensational mascara.
  2. Rimmel: I’m a big fan of Rimmel mainly because they have really good drugstore foundations. I use the Lasting Finish 25 hour foundation which definitely lasts all day (not really sure about 25 hours, though, since I take my makeup off at night). I also love that it has a foundation light enough for my pale skin. Recently, I bought their setting powder which is also really great.
  3. L’Oreal: This is probably my absolute favorite drugstore brand simply because they do so, so many products right. If I had to recommend one, it would probably be this one. Their foundations are light enough for my pale skin, they make my absolute favorite mascara as of now (Lash Paradise), and I’ve heard their lip liners and lipsticks are really great.
  4. Physician’s Formula: This one is kind of the higher end of drugstore makeup. Because of that, I’ve just started trying it out, but so far I really like the brand as a whole. My favorite is their Butter Bronzer which is so creamy and smells like coconut.

So….because I can never go to Walmart for bread and milk and just pick up those items without stopping by the makeup aisle….We have this blog post today! These are some of the products that I have been wanting to try for quite a long time now, and I’m really happy that I finally broke down and got them!

First up, we have the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.

I have heard so many incredible things about this sponge, and it definitely did not disappoint! I actually liked it a lot better than the beauty blender (just personal preference). It’s a lot firmer, and I feel like it applies the makeup better instead of just soaking it all up. It also has three parts to it (the flat side, middle, and pointy end), so you can use it in a lot of different ways. I used the middle part for my foundation and the point for my concealer, and they both blended it out really well.

2. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer

This is one of my absolute favorite drugstore concealers. It really brightens up my dark under eye circles even without a color corrector, and it even covered up the redness on the sides of my nose. Plus, it lasts throughout the day for me better than other drugstore concealers I’ve tried, and the color is really great for my pale skin.

3. Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder

I can’t really say much about the long lasting part because I just started trying it out, but from what I’ve seen I really like this product. It made my makeup come together really well, and I didn’t find it to be overly powdery when I applied it. It didn’t feel heavy on my face at all.

4. Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer

I LOVE this bronzer. First of all, I can’t get over how cute the packaging is and that it smells like coconuts. It also comes with a mirror and applicator under the actual bronzer which is really nice. The color is really perfect for my pale skin (as in it doesn’t make me look like I have an orange/dark brown line going down my face), and it blends out really well which is great for someone who has recently started using bronzer like me! Even though I thought it was a bit more on the pricy side, I’m really glad I ended up buying it. It’s definitely worth it.
